Struggling to make the most of your small bathroom? Whether renovating a powder room or a snug primary bath, these 20 stunning bathroom tile ideas will make your limited space feel luxurious.

1. Create an Expansive Look with Large-Format Tile

Large-format tile requires fewer grout lines, which makes a small space feel more cohesive. Featured on the floor and half-wall of this bathroom, the Livingstone Melange tile creates the illusion of an expansive space by maintaining an almost continuous design. Shop our wide assortment of large-format tile for more big ideas.

2. Play Around With a Bold Pattern

A powder bathroom is generally smaller, less frequently used and more guest-facing than your primary bathroom, making it the perfect space to experiment with bold colors and patterns. Here, the Nikki Chu Zulu Graphite tile adds a playful element to this small bathroom, while the modern sink vanity and fixtures maintain an elevated design. Explore our wide assortment of patterned tile to find the style that expresses your unique personality.

3. Mix Looks for Added Interest

Want to make your small space feel invigorating? Mixing tile styles or materials gives your eye more to focus on, providing a stimulating start to your day. This cool, contemporary bathroom demonstrates how to layer looks without feeling too busy. Though there are five separate tiles (not including trim), there are only three colors: blue, taupe and white. The use of white grout in the grid-stacked Look Avio subway tile creates a visual throughline to the white wall and shower floor tiles and the white geometric lines featured on the Ragno Taupe Matte floor tile.

This chic bathroom features blue subway tile, a textured wall tile and a hexagon tile floor.
Featuring: Firenze Carrara, Hall Bianco, Look Avio, Firenze Carrara Somerset, Firenze Carrara Corner Shower Seat, Imperial Bianco Matte Rhombus and Ragno Taupe Matte.

4. Small Bathroom Ideas on a Budget

You don’t need to spend a lot for a major room refresh. Achieve big-impact style on a small budget with The Tile Shop’s newly expanded collection of tiles under $7. Handmade-look, wood-look, large-format and more–you’ll be surprised at the wealth of design possibilities available for any price range. This fashionable bath, designed by @homewithhay, features the Cool Blue wall tile. Priced at just $6.99/sq.ft., this handmade-look tile is both on trend and within budget.

5. Visually Elongate Your Space with Diagonal Picket Tile

Inherently dynamic and energetic, diagonal lines create the illusion of a wider room. When installed diagonally, picket tile disrupts the symmetry of your space–perfect for adding interest to a minimalist design. We love how this bathroom wall maintains subtlety by pairing the Lanse Matte Black Picket tile with black grout.

6. Create a Space that Connects You With Nature

If stepping outside gives you a mood boost, bring that serotonin-inducing scenery indoors with nature-inspired colors, materials and designs. Even if your bathroom isn’t large enough for live plants, incorporating a botanical pattern–like the Morris & Co. Hawkdale Willow Olive tile–can offer some of the same benefits as actual greenery. For more ideas on bringing the beauty of the outdoors into your home, check out this guide to biophilic design.

7. Keep Your Space Versatile with White Subway

Effortlessly chic and timeless, white subway tile is the white tee of interior design–it goes with everything! You can dress up this classic by pairing it with a mosaic or patterned tile, just like @alexandria.by.design did in this space featuring the Asteri floor tile. The simple black-and-white color scheme makes the space easy to update as styles and tastes change. Simply swapping out the shower curtain can completely alter the bathroom’s aesthetic.

8. Create a Wallpaper Effect with an Ornate Pattern

A confined space makes your walls more susceptible to moisture and inevitable bathroom messes. A beautiful (and easy-to-clean!) patterned tile will protect your space from floor to ceiling while providing a stylish wallpaper look. An ornate design, like the Cheverny Blanc tile featured here, achieves delicate artistry with superior durability.

9. Visually Soften Your Space With Curved Tile

Tile is an inherently hard material, and the straight edges and sharp corners of squares and rectangles can feel rigid. A curved shape–like a penny round tile or the Wave Grey Owl tile shown here–creates the illusion of softness by offering your eye smooth, pillowy lines to focus on. This can make your small space feel cozy and comfortable.

10. Small Bathroom Floor Tile Ideas

If you’re getting maximum usage from your small bathroom, you want a floor tile that’s durable, easy to maintain, and still makes your space feel luxurious. Ultra-luxe and super robust, marble-look porcelain or ceramic tile is the perfect blend of style and strength. With a wide range of bold to delicate-veined looks to choose from, our ever-expanding selection of marble-look tile offers something for everyone.

11. Tile Your Floor In Black & White

Simple and stylish, black-and-white tile pairs well with virtually any design. Whether you choose an elegant marble mosaic or a geometric pattern, this classic color scheme is a great foundation for both a fancy and fun-loving space. This gorgeous powder room, designed by @andreak_covelladesigns, features the Marble Star porcelain floor tile. The intricate design and textured stone appearance add interest without detracting from the beautiful floral wallpaper, antique cabinetry and Victorian painting.

12. Create a Winning Design

Checkerboard is a timeless trend that doesn’t require a lot of space to make a big impression. Virtually any two similarly sized square tiles (or halved rectangular tiles) can create a design checkmate. We love this elevated version, designed by @MaryLauren, featuring the Arctic White and Bandung Gris Acid marble tiles.

13. Small Bathroom Shower Tile Ideas

Add needed storage and style with a shower niche. Because niches take up such a small amount of real estate, they’re a great place to experiment with a tile–like a bold pattern or mosaic–that might overwhelm the rest of the room. You can also coordinate your niche with a backsplash or accent wall to enhance the design of your space.

Bathroom area with textured white ceramic tile and a dark porcelain rectangular tile on floor top area features a waterfall deco in natural stone and glass natural stone trim pieces finish off the area along with stone baseboard black, white and Grays make the space classic but sharp looking. Featuring: Blanco Waves, Winter Morning Athens, Hampton Carrara: 12 x 24 in., Corner Shower Seat, Barnes, Cobble, Stanton, Somerset and Shower Curb.

14. Tile the Tub

In a small space, it’s even more important for your design to feel cohesive. Using tile to visually align your tub apron with the floor and/or wall will help hide its bulk. This space, designed by A Glass of Bovino, creates unity by featuring the Firenze Calacatta marble on the shower wall and tub.

15. Tile the Ceiling

Another great bathroom tile idea for small showers: if you’re dealing with a low shower ceiling, consider extending the tile to cover overhead. The Splendor Blanco tile used throughout this shower, designed by Coco & Jack, makes the small space feel larger, and the vertical stack provides the illusion of height.

16. Create a Custom Design

A small space is a great place to showcase your design skills. This boho-chic bathroom, designed by I SPY DIY, demonstrates how a little creativity can go a long way in crafting a space that feels uniquely you. The Villa Warm White and Warm Grey subway tiles are arranged in a custom layout, perfectly complementing the space’s eclectic aesthetic. Get your creative juices flowing with more globally inspired ideas in this guide to boho-chic design.

17. Drench Your Space In Marble

This guest bathroom, designed by Nikki Chu, proves that your space doesn’t need to be large to be luxurious. We love how she went all-in with floor-to-ceiling Ashford Carrara. Since the space is limited, this opulent look is achievable on a less-than-extravagant budget. Explore marble tile to find elegant natural stone collections, featuring coordinating field tiles, mosaics and trim pieces.

18. Go for a Vintage Vibe

If your bathroom is left over from the last century, embrace its vintage charm! This bathroom, designed by Yellow Brick Home, maintains the classic pink sink and chrome fixtures but updates the tile with period-appropriate white subway tile and black pencil trim. The Hampton Niles marble mosaic floor tile features a black-and-white basketweave–a slightly modern twist on a classic design.

19. Make a Statement Wall

When working with a small space, it can be helpful to focus attention on one wall. Designer Kelli Fontana subverts expectations by making the wall the reflective element in this stylish powder room. The clever use of the Antique Mirror Bevel tile allows the window to become the focal point, while still providing the opportunity for a quick lipstick check.

20. Go All Out With a Mosaic Tile

An intricate mosaic tile creates a sense of flow and rhythm, making your space feel larger. A marble mosaic, like the Alison Victoria Elia Polished tile shown here, features distinct variations in veining and color from piece to piece, offering lush appeal and lively visual texture. Shop our wide selection of mosaic tile in a variety of styles and materials to achieve this stunning look.

You don’t need a large amount of space to feel refreshed and rejuvenated! Create a compact, yet luxurious, shower with these 12 stunning tile ideas. For more inspiration, check out our 29 Stunning Shower Tile Design Ideas for 2025 and view our wide selection of shower tiles.

1. Create the Illusion of Space With Large Format Tile

Large format tiles require fewer grout lines, which will make your space feel more expansive. This shower, designed by Nikki Chu, uses the Savannah Antique 24″ x 48″ marble-look tile to create the appearance of solid marble walls. The effect is an elegant and tranquil space–the epitome of quiet luxury.

2. Create a Luxurious Spa Experience with Pebble Tile

A refreshing at-home spa experience is just the thing to elevate your morning routine. The Grey Pebble Small Mosaic tile will make your shower feel lavish, even if you don’t have the luxury of space. The pebble shapes will give your feet a soothing massage and surround you with a calming atmosphere.

Plan your visit. Find a store.

3. Utilize Your Space With a Corner Shelf

Make the most of your small space by installing a corner shelf. Hanging racks can make your shower feel cluttered, but a built-in shelf provides a convenient and stylish place to hold your soap and shampoo. Shop corner shelves in a variety of materials and styles to match your shower tile.

4. Brighten Your Space with Brilliant Jewel Tones

One of our favorite bathroom tile ideas for small showers is dazzling jewel-toned tile. Brilliant blues and glimmering greens are a 2025 trend that we predict will be around for years to come. We love how Wade Home Remodeling used the Look Blu tile in this shower. The shine of the tiles reflects the light, making this small space feel fresh and bright, even though the tile is a darker color.

5. White Tile Shower Ideas for Small Bathrooms

Always on-trend white subway tile will give your shower walls a chic and sleek look. The traditional brick-lay look of this shower, designed by Timber and Sued,e is both modern and classic. If you want to punch up your white subway tile design, try using dark-colored grout for contrast (it will also hide dirt, making your shower look cleaner even if you miss a week of scrubbing).

6. Create a Shower Niche

A great tile shower idea for small bathrooms is a decorative and practical shower niche. We love this niche designed using tile from the Alison Victoria collection. The Elia Polished marble mosaic and Precious Metals 24 Karat Pencil trim create a chic, highly designed look. Because the shower niche is a relatively small space, you have a chance to really showcase your style with a patterned or mosaic tile that would be too busy for the entire shower.

It's better in real life. Order samples.

7. Create a Vertical Accent

An intricate patterned or mosaic tile can easily overwhelm a small shower, but if you love a bold design, you can still incorporate it in small doses. Here, a vertical stripe of Trois Bandes tile creates a striking accent, contrasting the organic texture of the wood-look tile with its vibrant black-and-white pattern. Explore our wide selection of patterned tile to find a design that enlivens your space.

8. Add Height with a Vertical Stack

There are many ways to use subway tile in your shower design. If you’re working with a short space, you can make it feel taller by installing vertical stack subway tile, like this shower designed by Coco & Jack. The tiled ceiling enhances the illusion of height, making this shower feel as spacious as it is charming.

9. Add Artisanal Charm With Zellige Tile

A major trend we’re excited about this year is the authentically artisanal aesthetic of handmade tiles. Subtle variations in surface texture, size and color make handmade options—like the Zellige Alabaster Gloss tile shown here—a charming choice for a small shower. Crafted, painted and glazed by hand using ancient techniques, every Zellige tile is unique. Prefer a more consistent look? Explore our wide selection of handmade-look tile.

10. Go All Out With All-Over Marble

Just because you don’t have the luxury of space, doesn’t mean you can’t have a luxurious aesthetic. Since the smaller footprint means you can afford to do more, a small shower might be just the place to invest in real marble tile. Many of our marble tile collections, like the Ashford Carrara shown here, include several sizes, trim pieces and mosaics, so you can achieve a highly designed look like this bathroom designed by Nikki Chu.

11. Add Movement With a Herringbone Pattern

One of the best ways to add movement to your shower walls is with a herringbone pattern. Elongated subway tiles like the Splendor Blanco tile shown here will make your space feel wider. This pattern, created by Quinn Design, adds interest to the small space without making it feel busy.

12. Awaken Your Senses With Fluted Wood-Look Tile

With its raised, fluted design, the Nidus Decor Mix tile brings a tactile dimension to this chic shower, while the warm wood look creates a visual connection to the natural world. The result is a space that soothes the senses and uplifts your mood through intentional biophilic design—a style defined by its use of natural materials, textures and colors to bring the outdoors in. Shop our wide selection of wood-look tile for more waterproof, nature-inspired designs.

Small Bathroom & Shower Tile FAQs

What is the best tile to use for a small shower?

As for any space, the best tile to use is the one that makes you feel refreshed and invigorated. If you want to add the illusion of height or width, use a subway tile installed vertically (for height) or horizontally (for width).

What is the best color tile for a small bathroom?

A light-colored tile will make your space feel more open and airy, but if you have a lot of natural light in your bathroom, you can opt for a darker tile. A highly reflective tile, like a glossy jewel-toned tile will add light even if the tile itself is darker.

What tile makes a small shower look bigger?

Large-format tiles require fewer grout lines, which will make your space feel more expansive. Shop our full assortment of large-format tile to find your unique style.

Dreaming of a luxurious reno, but worried about the cost? Create the space of your dreams on a real-life budget with these five smart tips.

1. Enhance the Spaces that Elevate Your Day

When approaching any design, it’s important to assess what you value so you know where to invest. If you don’t have the budget for a whole-home makeover, start with the spaces where you start your day, or the rooms where you spend the most time. You probably begin your day in your kitchen or bathroom, where you make coffee and take a shower. Choosing a design that will invigorate you in the morning will help you start your day off right.

2. Invest In What You Love

Do you adore the look of real marble? Have you fallen in love with a beautiful mosaic or gorgeous pattern? If your budget doesn’t allow for you to use your dream tile throughout your space, try incorporating it into your design in smaller ways. A shower niche or picture frame provides a limited format that will make your decorative tile the focal point.

3. Mix Marble-Look Tile with Real Marble

Wondering how to update bathroom tiles on a budget? Mixing marble-look tile with real marble tile is a great way to achieve an affordable bathroom tile design. This luxurious bathroom features the Volkas marble tile ($23.89/sq. ft.) throughout, but if you’re working within a budget, you can still get this look with the Volkas porcelain tile ($5.09/sq. ft.). The realistic veining and coloring of the man-made tile mimics the appearance of the higher price-point marble tile. You can elevate your design by incorporating real marble trim and accent pieces. The Elia Honed by Alison Victoria tile, used for the accent wall in this bathroom, makes a stunning shower niche (as shown in the above photo).

4. Choose an Affordable Alternative

Here’s a budget shower tile idea: choose an affordable alternative to your favorite tile. Compare the Cool Blue tile ($6.99/sq. ft.) in this shower to the Marrakesh Blue tile ($13.29/sq. ft.) used for the kitchen below. Both tiles feature the color variation and uneven surface texture characteristic of handmade-look tiles. The difference is the Cool Blue tile comes in a 12″ x 24″ pre-scored sheet, giving the appearance of individual tiles, but making for easier installation. We love how this shower embraces the features of this tile, using wider grout joints between the sheets as an innovative design element.

5. Stay True to Your Aesthetic

Even if you’re working within a budget, you want to make sure you’re staying true to your preferred style. This chic industrial bathroom designed by Kelli Fontana Vogelgesang of West Bay Homes features the Softcement Graphite tile, an affordable floor option at only $5.99/sq. ft. The cement look is perfectly keeping with the moody aesthetic of this bathroom.

The hot new trend in fashion and home decor is “quiet luxury,” a style focused on elevated essentials and understated elegance. Like minimalism, this design aesthetic is about paring down your space to showcase a few quality elements, but it’s also focused on creating a space that fills you with warmth, joy and calm. The emphasis on sustainability gives this trend staying power. Quiet luxury is ultimately about creating spaces that enhance your daily routine–embrace this ethos and you’ll have a space that you’ll love for many years to come. Here are eight ways you can use tile to complete your quiet luxury style.

1. Choose Warm Neutrals

Beige tile is back and taking over home decor with its calm, earthy vibes. The creamy, soft palette is soothing to the eye and the mind. This bathroom, created using Coco Canvas tile, is warm, bright and wonderfully tranquil. A single beige color palette is enhanced with the handmade-look details of the tile and the double row of vertical glossy tiles.

2. Select Materials that Enhance Your Environment

This trend is more than just aesthetics, investing in quality materials that enrich your daily life. Think of how pampered you would feel in this shower featuring Grey Pebble Mosaic tile? The soothing texture of the pebbles will give your feet a little message as you bathe, contributing to a lush and relaxing environment.

3. Add Small Luxurious Details

If you don’t have the time or the budget for a complete reno, you can find small places to add luxurious touches. A kitchen backsplash or shower niche, like the one shown here tiled in Elia Polished by Alison Victoria, is a great space to infuse a little luxury that will elevate the rest of your space.

4. Showcase Your Personality

Whereas minimalism is about pairing down to the essentials, quiet luxury is about choosing to highlight the pieces that are most meaningful to you. Don’t be afraid to pick tiles that add a little individualism to your home decor. This dining room, designed by Kelli Fontana Vogelgensang, spotlights her signature Gilded Mirror tiles and Tommas Classico fluted wall tile. The effect is elegance that aligns with her personal style. If you love this bold, whimsical and classic aesthetic, explore the Kelli Fontana collection.

5. Create a Serene Space

Quiet luxury is about creating comfort and tranquility in your home. This bathroom designed by Nikki Chu uses calming neutrals and soft textures for a relaxed, yet luxurious space. Every element, from the wood frame mirror to the grey and taupe veined marble-look tile, complements each other. The effect is a space that feels at once centered and peaceful.

6. Invest in Quality Materials

No two pieces of stone will ever be alike, so when you choose real marble, travertine or limestone, you’re investing in truly unique tile. Quiet luxury is all about finding your individualism and showing and wearing quality products, and real stone, like the Calacatta Evora marble shown here, will add a sense of authentic luxury to your space.

7. Embrace Imperfect Authenticity

Each piece of Zellige tile is handcrafted and glazed, giving it its signature perfectly imperfect look. The Zellige Alabaster Gloss tile shown here epitomizes quiet luxury in its charming imperfections and soft beige coloring. It’s authentic, unique and soothing.

This kitchen wall is covered in glossy beige ceramic handmade Moroccan tile. Each of the square tiles has subtle variation in color and texture, which adds depth to an otherwise simple tiled surface.

8. Choose Sustainability

Advanced technology in manmade tiles means you can achieve a gorgeous real-stone look with porcelain or ceramic tiles. Marble-look tiles are durable and easy to maintain, making them a highly sustainable option, especially in high-traffic areas.

1. Vintage Pink Tile Bathroom Ideas

Embrace pink’s historical charm with a chic retro tile design. This Art Deco-inspired space designed by Bari J. Ackerman shows how shape and color can be used to create a charming aesthetic. 2. Pink and Black Bathroom Ideas

Combine pink and black for a bathroom that’s cool and eclectic. The Lanse Matte Black Picket tile creates an edginess to this feminine bathroom. The elongated hexagon forms and the light-grey grout gives this space interest while still maintaining orderliness, while the unique sink and faucet add to the funky aesthetic. Because the base is in black and white, the space can easily be updated, but we love how the pink cabinetry lends a softness to this chic and unique design.

3. Blush Brick Look

The pink-beige coloring of the Brick x Brick by Alison Victoria in Petal tile has a charming handmade brick look that will complement a variety of design styles. The subtle variance in surface texture and coloring add interest to the traditional subway tile. Shown here with a gorgeous mosaic with gold trim shower niche, this tile combines a soft feminine beauty with a rustic brick look.

Kelli Fontana, lead designer and creative director of West Bay Homes, created a delightful oasis in this Naples, FL home, dubbed the Sun Coast Estate. The captivating opulence of this 13,000-sq.-ft. estate incorporates the coastal essence of The Sunshine State while still maintaining the comfort of home.

We invite you to take a tour through this charming and stately home brimming with inspiring design choices that showcase some of our favorite tile.

Mudroom

Comfort and elegance combine to create this charming mudroom. Contemporary, yet timeless the Laura Ashley Wicker Dove Grey tile provides balance to the bold reddish-brown walls and intricately patterned window coverings.

Powder Room

A wealth of beautiful textures and patterns meld to create intrigue and allure in this bold, yet pleasing powder room. The sculptural Harmony Silverleaf tile adds visual interest to the ceiling and complements the hanging crystals. While the soft white Meram Blanc Carra tile center the lower-half of the room in sleek comfort that contrasts the large floral wallpaper.

The elegant and classic Meram Blanc Carrara polished tile, rustic mirror, light-wood cabinetry and organic accents combine complex textures for a look that is both captivating and inviting.

Living Area

For the indoor/outdoor living area, Kelli takes a more minimalist approach. The bright white walls and Siberian Pearl Brushed marble floors create an airy open space filled with natural light. A simple color palette keeps focus on the seating area, where family and friends can gather.

Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of any home, and a place to find nourishment and build memories. The white counters and cabinetry work with the Retro Lino backsplash to make the space feel clean and vivid. The glass doors display the dishware for a lived-in feel.

The clear coat glaze on the Retro Lino subway tile reflects the light, providing extra illumination to the cooking area. Check out our post on Kitchen Backsplash Ideas for more inspiration.

Primary Bathroom

Soak in the lush neutral tones that create an opulent space, at once soft and bright. The brown veining in the Tresana Blanco Matte porcelain tile bring out the room’s color palette with subtle appeal that doesn’t detract from the bathroom’s clean luxuriousness. Browse our wide-assortment of bathroom tile for the perfect look for your next home project.

Boys’ Bathroom

This blue-plaid room invokes a classic boyhood feel. Straight lines and a monochromatic color scheme maintain a sense of order while still being youthful. The white grout line crossing through the Splendours Blue Night shower tile is an inverse to the white and blue wallpaper (find more shower tile on our website). While the more uniform Glass Nautical Blue backsplash creates a block of color that is strong without detracting from the rest of the room.

The subtle sheen of the Ionic White floor tile provides a sturdy, unassuming base to the patterns that play throughout the room.

Guest Bathroom

What guest wouldn’t feel at home stepping into this gorgeous shower? The Bulevar White ceramic tile has a subtle wavy texture that soothes the senses. The clean white tile also provides a gentle buffer between the bold patterned wallpaper and the marvelous McQueen Grey stone mosaic tile accent.

Guest Bathroom

The Legno limestone tile mimics the look of woodgrain to create an organic texture that is also durable. A warm grey palette and linear veining complement the textured accents in the cabinets and wall sconces. Read our post for even more luxurious bathroom design ideas.

Bar

The focal point of the home is this stunning bar. At once contemporary and reminiscent of retro glamor, the Antique Mirror Bevel tile and gorgeous gold and glass hanging lights are captivating without being obtrusive, making this the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail with friends.

The Antique Mirror Bevel tile reflects the fireplace and billiards room beyond, creating depth while still maintaining the intimacy of the space.

Laundry Room

Laundry is less of a chore in this beautifully designed room with its fresh, clean aesthetic. The soft blue and white color palette lend a calmness to this space. The solid, simple coloring of the walls and cabinetry bring a balance that allow for more interest in the floor tile, Decora Ornament Blue, which brings a sophisticated charm to the room.

Pool Bathroom

The Art Nouveau-inspired design on the Decora Redondo cement-look wall tile lend a classic elegance to this pool bathroom. The grey shapes perfectly balance the blue coral and candle used to accent the sink area, giving the room a subtle aquatic feel.
